March in South Africa brings with it the onset of Autumn. The days become shorter, the nights are cooler, and this heralds the start of the avocado season. In a few weeks, the avocado season will be in full swing with hundreds of containers being loaded and shipped to Europe each week, where they are eagerly awaited by consumers who seek out our proudly South African avocados.
It’s an important time of the year for the Liventus Team in South Africa too. After the stone fruit season which kept us busy, our work dramatically changes as the number of containers to service increases. We spend a lot of time preparing and planning for this time of the year. Each shipment is closely watched and monitored until it leaves our shores. This thanks to the modems. They allow us to remotely follow each shipment. Part of our daily routine is to go online and check on the containers already serviced and to ensure each is performing as we would expect.
It’s also a time to launch new projects and research. We are very comfortable with the high CO2 atmosphere we provide for avocados. The benefits are well researched and documented. But despite this, we continue to look for further enhancement. So our focus turns to matching the maturity level with the optimum level of CO2. After a few years of trials we are approaching the point where we can confidently recommend a CO2 level to suite the maturity of the avocado. Our differential factor is the constant research and improvement of our value propositions and solutions we provide.
As a part of our global campaign for avocados, our Head of the Research and Development Department, Danilo Arellano will be speaking at the World Avocado Congress 2023 in New Zealand about the research done on CO2 levels and how avocado respiration rates are influenced by the CO2 concentration. For more information about hist talk, you can visit the event’s website at https://www.wacnz2023.com/programme/academic-programme . We are sure that you will find his work and data very interesting. The academic session will take place at the Hanua Room, on Tuesday April 4th.
In addition to this, if the goal is to find consistency in the quality and condition of arrival of your avocados in international markets, we are available to discuss your needs, and will be happy to provide you with our portfolio of comprehensive postharvest solutions. We take pride in the work we do and the care we give to each container of avocados.
