High relative humidity decreases softening

Regardless of whether your respiratory rate is low or not, the blueberry continues to respire, so its metabolism remains active. By using a Controlled Atmosphere, its respiration is further controlled, extending its post-harvest life and, therefore, its shelf life.

On the other hand, it has an effect on the loss of water, since the fruit releases CO2 and water vapor when it respires. By controlling this process, the loss of water from the fruit to the environment can be reduced, which benefits firmness.

As a Liventus team, we were able to verify this theory thanks to a study carried out with a pool of 3,000 containers, validating the effect that CA has on the respiratory rate of blueberries.
